Haltemprice Leisure centre has a 25m main pool and a learner pool which provide a wide range of activities and sessions to suit all ages and abilities. The village style changing rooms are set out with disabled, family, group and individual changing rooms.
Both swimming pools and the changing rooms will be closed from Monday 2 September for approximately seven months as part of stage 2 of the Haltemprice Leisure Centre redevelopment. The nearest swimming pools to Haltemprice are at Beverley Leisure Complex, Goole Leisure Centre and South Holderness Sports Centre.
When they reopen, both swimming pools and the changing rooms will have been totally refurbished, including new heating, lighting and ventilation, new changing facilities, showers and toilets, all retiled and brought up to modern standards. However, the biggest impact will be the addition of a moveable floor in the main pool that will allow us to revolutionise our swimming programme, including our swimming lesson programme.
What does a moveable floor do?
As part of the redevelopment a moveable floor is being installed in the deep end of the main pool, this will allow us to adjust the depth of the deepest third of the main pool from 2.0m’s up to the water’s surface.
In essence, this allows us to have two shallow ends to the main pool if we wish or set the depth of the pool to a specific level. This would allow us to increase the number of swimming lessons we can teach at any one time or, alternatively, have an aqua aerobics class taking place across the full width of the pool. Being able to change the depth of the pool allows us to cater better for different customer groups and to make better use of the pool space.
